Introduction

Welcome to the web site of the Traditional Craft Association. The association is dedicated to bring the various parts of the craft of old together to serve mankind, preserving craft skills for the future, removing the fear from magic or beliefs and making the beneficial effects of the spirit available to everyone who wishes it to be a part of their life.

We do not exclude anyone who feels that they have a craft skill, and by craft skill we mean the ability by magical or scientific means to provide help for people, and we do not differentiate on the basis of your chosen sprit path, so witches of all types, traditional groups, country groups, Wiccans, Druids, fairy people, together with many other pagan groups and individuals, Christians of all denominations, Muslims, Jews, and all other religions, all we ask is that each acknowledges the right of the other to choose their own path to the spirit.

We are not a political or campaigning organization, and encourage co-operation not confrontation. In time of war we will side with none, or use any of our craft skills to assist anyone if by doing so anyone else should be harmed.

We acknowledge the right of individuals or organizations to choose their own path, so seek to make none join this association or to license in any way craft skills, but by example to show that our way, is one that will bring all who join in,  nearer to the spirit and that by working together we are greater than our component parts.

It is said, but no records exist, that the association was first formed in the days of the British Empire by Christian academics hoping to understand the magic of old as a means of gaining greater communication with God. It is said they initially studied Druids and Egyptian knowledge but soon realized that so much from so many groups and cultures overlapped, so then attempted to combine the knowledge from many according to a classification system, now largely lost.

Their structure is set up so as to divide crafts according to the most prominent element, water, fire, earth and air. The fifth element spirit being not allotted to any group, but shared by all. Due to the strong druidic element, Water is considered the senior element and the senior Water Witch is considered the wisest man or woman in the land, respected by all members of this association. The most senior water witch has an hereditary title of Aqua.

Halloween has become far more of a social event for all these days, great fun for all ages, and a chance to celebrate. Our new free fun guide to Halloween is now being written - look out for more details.

When established they elected one of their number Merlin, wizard of all historic craft knowledge, for a period of 4 years, before the next Merlin was chosen. Some traditional organizations have a post of Merlin within each of their groups who is responsible for training and spreading knowledge. The selection of a Merlin within the association was discontinued partly after the post was so often held by the same individual as the one considered wisest in the land, and due to confusion having often a collection of Merlins meeting from different organizations. The original concept being that one was the wisest man, while the Merlin was the fountain of knowledge. We now acknowledge that in our time it would be impossible to have a person who knew all knowledge.

While our quest is to bring together ancient crafts in friendship, the concentration is on relevance to our time. So although we seek old knowledge, we strive most to understand knowledge of old or new that will allow the members as a  whole or as a group to effect change or improve the life of an individual, group or the whole of society.
